How to Mix Terpenes: Ratios, Tools and Technique

Every terpene flavor differs in strength when mixed, so ratios — not guesswork — are how you get repeatable results. Here is the starting point we give every customer, and how to adjust it by family.

How much terpene concentrate should you use?

Start with 0.1 mL of terpene blend per 1 mL (1 g) of your solution — a 10% ratio — then adjust to taste in small increments. Mint blends run strong, so start lower; candy and dessert blends run medium-strong; fruity and beverage blends sit closest to the baseline.

That baseline is deliberately conservative. You can always add more flavor; you cannot take it back out.

Remember that our blends are concentrates, ready for dilution and never used at full strength. The starting ratio exists so your first test batch lands in usable territory instead of overwhelming it.

Adjust by family strength

Every flavor differs in strength when mixed, and the family tells you which way to lean. Mint runs strong — start below 0.1 mL per 1 mL with a blend like Double Mint Blend, or its menthol finish will dominate the mix. Candy & dessert blends run medium-strong with a sweeter finish. Fruity and beverage blends run medium and behave closest to the baseline.

Treat those as starting biases, not rules. A blend used as an undertone beneath another flavor — lemon under a fruit mix, for example — can run lower still.

Work in small increments

Adjust in small steps — think 0.01 to 0.02 mL at a time per 1 mL of base — and evaluate after each addition. Flavor perception compounds quickly at these concentrations, and a jump that looks minor on paper can push a mix from bright to harsh.

Change one variable at a time and write everything down: blend, ratio, base, batch size. A recorded recipe is what turns a good test into a repeatable product.

Use glass and PTFE tools

Concentrated terpenes can interact with some plastics, which is why our 30 mL bottles are dropper-top glass. Keep the whole workflow in the same materials: glass beakers and vials, PTFE-lined caps, and graduated glass pipettes or syringes for measuring.

Precision matters more than volume here. A 1 mL graduated pipette resolves the 0.01 mL steps that careful adjustment requires — a kitchen teaspoon does not.
